You may be wondering where I am in the "read the Bible Thru" process we started in January. Here's a bit of where I am and what I'm thinking:
Numbers 9-11 - No surprise the people get tired of manna. Every day? Every meal? So, God gives them meat - too much. Maybe this is where the phrases, "what have you done for me lately?" and "too much of a good thing" came up. No wonder Moses wonders audibly, "Why did you give me these people?"
Psalm 49-52 - David's psalm of confession and cleansing continues to stand out as one of scriptures most poignant discussions of the heart. "Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow..."
Matthew 22 - The greatest commandment - what a wonderful treasure to have it all whittled down to what we can all certainly understand. I wonder sometimes about the way it must have come across - "I've done all these things, now, how do I inherit eternal life?" Surely Jesus must have thought, "Why have you been doing all these things?" We really get it mixed up sometimes, don't we?
Romans 1-4 - The privilege of the Jews in receiving the original revelation, yet misunderstanding the purpose for which they received it...sounds just like the ruler in Matthew 22. The revelation should make them more aware of the importance of faith, not less! We certainly are all sinners and in need of grace.
Hope you're up to here and beyond - if not, why not get started today!?
